Hood County History The first settlers went into what is now Hood County before the war, but until about were on the frontier line of North Texas counties and had to protect home and stock against the incursions of raiding Indians.
Hood County's area for about ten years after the first settlers came was included in Johnson County. A history of Hood County, Texas: from its earliest settlement to the present, together with biographical sketches of many leading men and women among the early settlers, as well as many incidents in the adjoining territory: also a sketch of the history of Somervell County.
Granbury, Tex.:. History. Hood County was formed in from portions of Johnson County. It was named after John Bell Hood, a general of the Confederate Army and commander of Hood's Texas Brigade.
Geography. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of square miles (1, km 2), of which square miles (1, km 2) is land and 16 square miles (41 km 2) (%) is ssional district: 11th.
HOOD COUNTY. Hood County embraces square miles of the north central plains of Texas. Granbury, the county seat, is forty-one miles southwest of Fort Worth on U.S.
Highway The county's center point is at 32°27' north latitude and 97°47' west longitude. In Thomas Taylor Ewell published Hood County History. Although only pages in length, the book is a good narrative of the pioneers and formative years of Hood County, Texas. Ewell, who was a prominent Granbury attorney, gave an objective overview of the local politics and personalities.
