John ) In the Gospel reading today, we hear Nathaniel speaking to the apostle Philip, and he says to Philip, Can anything good come out of Nazareth. Bartholomew was one of the 12 main disciples of Jesus Christ. In the entire New Testament, his name only appears in the four lists of the twelve apostles (Matthew –4, Mark –19, Luke –16, Acts –13).

He’s never given any distinguishing qualities or titles, so aside from his name, we know almost nothing about him.
